These first weeks mark that time when medical students join the collegial ranks of the profession, and medical school represents the first step of on-the-job training. The transition to medical school is a very important time in the life of every doctor – no longer in college or a master’s program, striving for high grades as an end in and of themselves, or as a ticket to gaining admission to medical school. This course, the first students attend at Penn State College of Medicine, is designed to help them make the transition to medical education and training and to begin to build some of the skills necessary for success in medical school and a career in medicine.
